E Vineyard.Guigal was founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in Ampuis, in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, after Étienne had worked for many years at the Vidal Fleury winery.The Guigal family gradually expanded their holdings, and in the 1990s.and in the early 21st century, it made key acquisitions, including Jean-Louis Grippat’s estate in Saint-Joseph and the Domaine de Vallouit, which allowed it to expand its influence to the Saint-Joseph and Hermitage appellations as well.Guigal’s headquarters and main vineyards are located on the slopes overlooking the Rhône, on a terroir composed of granite, weathered rock, and sandy-granite soil—conditions that favor wines with structure, minerality, and distinct character.Guigal is best known for its iconic Côte-Rôtie wines, particularly the three single-vineyard cuvées—La Mouline, La Landonne, and La Turque—which have gained international prestige.An interesting fact is that in 2007, the release of the 2003 vintage of the “La La” cuvée set a record for the price per bottle in the Rhône region (approx..$800), and Guigal is often cited by critics as a model of the pursuit of quality in the Rhône Valley.
Guigal Saint-Joseph 2019 is made from 100% Syrah, harvested from plots with vines ranging in age from about 20 to 50 years, combined with grapes from the famous Grippat and Vallouit estates.After harvest, maceration is carried out with care to extract fruity and spicy aromas, and the wine is then aged for 16 months in second-use oak barrels, which allows it to be “polished” without the oak becoming dominant.What makes it unique is its harmonious blend of power and elegance—the tannic structure is well-balanced, the fruit is not overshadowed, and its minerality and depth give it a character that allows it to age well.

Appearance:
The wine’s color is deep and dark—an intense ruby-purple with navy blue hues at the edges, reflecting its concentration and structure.
The clarity is good, with no visible sediment—the wine looks elegant and dense in the glass.

Aroma:
The nose reveals notes of black and red fruits—blackberries, black currants—interwoven with a spicy hint of pepper and a subtle note of smoke or tree bark.
In addition, there are earthy and stony aromas, along with hints of cedar and subtle spices, which add complexity.

Taste:
On the palate, the wine is concentrated, full-bodied, and structured, with good fruit intensity (black currant, cherry) supported by spicy notes and a subtle smoky-mineral hint.The tannins are ripe but still “hidden”; the structure is solid, and the long finish suggests aging potential.
