Product description
Benanti Winery was founded in 1988 in Castiglione di Sicilia on the northern slope of Mount Etna by Giuseppe Benanti, who recognized the extraordinary potential of the region’s volcanic soils and sought to produce wines of the highest quality.Although he had previously worked in the pharmaceutical industry, his passion and vision for winemaking led him to make a bold decision—to revive and develop the winemaking traditions of Mount Etna, which had been underappreciated until then.
From the very beginning, Benanti has focused on striking a balance between local traditions and international expertise—he has collaborated with Sicilian consultant Salvo Foti, as well as with winemakers from Piedmont and Burgundy, to combine the region’s authenticity with the best practices of global winemaking.Today, the winery is run by the founder's sons, Antonio and Salvino, who are carrying on their father's vision by expanding the estate, investing in modern technologies, and working toward full organic certification.
Benanti's philosophy is based on the concept of "terroir" wines—wines that faithfully reflect the slopes of Mount Etna, their aspect, microclimate, and mineral-rich, volcanic soils. The winery focuses on indigenous grape varieties, managing its vineyards sustainably and, in the case of white wines, fermenting and aging them in stainless steel to preserve their freshness and purity of flavor.
Benanti's vineyards are spread across various slopes of the volcano—northern, eastern, and southeastern—which allows the estate to take full advantage of the terroir's diversity.Production remains intentionally limited because quality, not quantity, is the priority. As a result, Benanti wines, exported to many markets around the world, have earned a reputation as some of the most authentic and prestigious wines from Mount Etna. The producer is regarded as a pioneer who has given the region's modern winemaking a new direction and international standing.
