Product description

Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy’s best-known and most award-winning wineries, founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges.The family's history dates back seven generations, and over the years, Faiveley has consistently expanded its holdings, acquiring, parcel by parcel, the finest “climats” in Burgundy.Today, the estate spans more than 120 hectares in various parts of the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise, including both Grand Cru vineyards and numerous Premier Cru vineyards. The company’s headquarters are still located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, but it also operates on numerous plots scattered throughout the region.Faiveley became famous not only as a winemaker but also as an innovator—the Faiveley family was one of the first in Burgundy to sort grapes by hand, and today Erwan and Eve Faiveley are introducing experimental practices in their vineyards and wineries. One of the most interesting episodes in recent history was the donation of a vineyard plot in Clos de Vougeot to the Hospices de Beaune to mark the 200th anniversary of the Faiveley family — a small plot was donated to support this historic institution and highlight the family’s commitment to the local wine community.

The 2019 vintage comes from the “Les Rugiens” vineyard, specifically the “Rugiens Hauts” section, which Domaine Faiveley acquired in 2007.The grapes are primarily Pinot Noir, grown on soil with a limestone subsoil mixed with marl and iron-rich rock debris, with eastern and southeastern exposure. After harvesting, the grapes are carefully sorted by hand, and fermentation takes place in wooden and steel vats using natural yeast. The wine ages for about 14 months in French oak barrels, one-third of which are new, giving it a balance between fruit and structure. This wine stands out for its harmonious blend of power and elegance—the tannins are bold but well-integrated into the fruit-driven structure, allowing the 2019 vintage to age for a long time.

Appearance
This wine has a deep ruby color with garnet hues, suggesting intensity and aging potential.
The rim of the glass may reveal a slightly brick-red hue, which is sometimes typical of aging and warm vintages.

Aroma
The nose is dominated by notes of black fruits, such as blackberry, black currant, and dark plum, intertwined with subtle spices (clove, nutmeg) and delicate oak tones. As it breathes, earthy notes, hints of forest litter, a slightly spicy pepper, and a delicate leather aroma emerge.

Flavor
The attack is powerful and full-bodied, with a distinct fruity core and a tight tannin structure—the tannins are straightforward, velvety, yet noticeable. The palate strikes a balance between power and elegance: black fruit and spicy notes blend with minerality and a touch of tartness, leading to a long, aromatic finish.

Culinary Pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with red meats—lamb, beef, or venison—especially when prepared with herbs and delicate sauces.
Spicy and mushroom-based dishes make a great accompaniment—such as risotto with porcini mushrooms, tenderloin with a crispy crust, or roast duck served with a raspberry reduction.
