Product description
The winery is located in the town of Sotillo de la Ribera, in the province of Burgos, on the northern bank of the Duero River basin; its vineyards are situated at altitudes between approx..830 to 930 m above sea level.p.m. It has approximately 54.8 ha of its own farmland spread across 27 parcels with a wide variety of soil types—ranging from calcareous soils to gravelly and sandy-gravelly soils to clayey valley soils.Since 2022, all of their vineyards have been certified organic, and fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts to better express the local terroir. The winery uses hand-harvesting, selection on two sorting tables, and gravity transfer (without pumping) to preserve the fruit’s integrity as much as possible. They primarily grow Tinto Fino (a local variety of Tempranillo), as well as smaller quantities of Garnacha, Albillo Mayor, and Merlot, striving to ensure that their wines reflect the unique character of each plot in the vineyard.
Majuelos de Callejo 2022 is made primarily from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) from the Arenales and Camposanto plots, with a complementary 3% blend of Garnacha from the limestone-rich (páramo) terroirs of Sotillo de la Ribera. The soils of these parcels are poor—gravelly, sandy, and calcareous, with low fertility—which limits the vigor of the vines and promotes fruit concentration. The grapes are harvested by hand into 12-kilogram crates, then sorted twice (on a sorting table), and fermentation takes place with natural yeasts using a gravity-fed system. The wine ages for 18 months in 500-liter “fûts” barrels, resulting in a subtle integration of wood that does not overpower the fruit.Appearance: deep, intense red-purple color with a navy blue rim (typical of a more mature wine)
Aroma: rich and complex—plum, blackberry, black currant, forest and herbal notes (thyme), pepper, a hint of cocoa, and subtle woody/cedar notes.
Flavor: juicy, with good acidity and structure; red and black fruit, hints of spices (cinnamon, nutmeg), a slight peppery note, and subtle oak integration; a long, elegant finish.
Culinary Pairings: It pairs perfectly with lamb, venison, red meat steaks, roasted vegetables, stews, aged cheeses (e.g., Manchego or Pecorino), as well as grilled dishes or aromatic roasted dishes
