Ole Smoky has been operating since 2010, founded by a group of friends in Gatlinburg, Tennessee (Gatlinburg is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the southern states).
Initially, Ole Smoky Moonshine was sold in a gift shop that was visited by over 2 million tourists a year. The brand's success has led to the company now having locations in Nashville and Pigeon Forge, in addition to two locations in Gatlinburg. Its product is offered in 17 flavors and is available in all 50 states. Some restaurants have built menus based on Ole Smoky. The company does not distill itself, nor does it reveal which distillery the whiskey comes from. The Ole Smoky Charred Moonshine presented here has been the brand's "showpiece" for years; the whiskey spends 3-4 months in re-charred bourbon barrels.
Nose : alcohol, burnt sugar, vanilla, popcorn, a pinch of cinnamon and charred oak.
Palate : caramel popcorn, vanilla, simple syrup, cinnamon, white pepper and charred oak.
Finish : not too long, with notes of caramel, vanilla, popcorn, pepper and charred oak.
