Hirsch (real name AH Hirsch) is a legendary brand of bourbon and rye whiskey produced at the Michter's distillery in Shaefferstown, Pennsylvania until the late 1980s.
Currently, the original AH Hirsch bourbon is one of the most sought-after American whiskeys and breaks auction price records. Since 2003, the rights to the Hirsch brand have been held by Californian Preiss Imports. The Hirsch Small Batch Reserve presented here is a 7-year-old bourbon from the MGP Distillery in Indiana, or more precisely, a marriage of two bourbons distilled according to the formulas: 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% barley malt and 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% barley malt.
Nose: vanilla, crème brûlée, maple syrup, licorice, baked apples, cocoa powder, cinnamon, a hint of marzipan and a trace of furniture polish.
Palate: sweet and spicy, vanilla, caramel, toffee, white chocolate, dried plums and cherries, cinnamon, pepper, notes of tobacco and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of crème brûlée, vanilla, licorice, cinnamon, anise and oak.
