Nobody knows, when exactly debuted White Bush aka Bushmills Original, it is also not clear whether was it originally single malt or a blend.
The distillery was never good in record keeping, moreover what records had existed were destroyed during World War II. What is pretty certain is that in the late 1940s Bushmills Original was a blended whiskey and enjoyed popularity in Ireland, continental Europe and the U.S. By the early 1970s Bushmills Original was America’s best selling Irish whiskey however the quantities sold remained tiny. The current Bushmills original is a blend of triple distilled Bushmills malt and grain whiskey sourced from Midleton Distillery aged almost exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels on average form three to five years.
