Product description
Elijah Craig's "Brand" debuted in 1986 from Heaven Hill Distillery; it was a 12-year-old bourbon distilled from a mash of 75% corn.
The brand's patron is the Reverend Elijah Craig, a preacher considered by some to be the father of bourbon (the idea of aging distillate in charred barrels is attributed to him, although sources are not clear on this matter). The aforementioned bourbon has won many prestigious awards and quickly became synonymous with high quality available at an affordable price. In October 2019, the brand was expanded to include rye whiskey. Its formula lists 51% rye (the legal minimum), 35% corn and 14% malted barley. In 2021 and 2022, this whiskey won a double gold medal at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco.
Nose: delicate notes of rye bread, brown sugar, vanilla, bubble gum, citrus peel, black pepper, a handful of fresh herbs, notes of potpourri and oak.
Palate: surprisingly sweet for a rye whiskey, caramel, milk fudge, vanilla, buttered toast, cinnamon, allspice and a dash of nutmeg.
Finish: medium long, with notes of caramel, vanilla, milk fudge, cinnamon, mixed herbs and charred oak.
