Product description
Sexton single malt debuted in the U.S. in the fall of 2017 as an offering from Proximo Spirits, a company founded 10 years earlier by the Beckmann family from Mexico.
The Beckmanns own José Cuervo tequila and, since 2014, the Irish Bushmills Distillery. Sexton is a whiskey “triple distilled in traditional pot stills in the north of Ireland and aged for a minimum of 4 years in first, second and third fill Oloroso sherry butts,” meaning all roads lead to the Bushmills distillery. The whiskey is bottled in black, hexagonal decanters, which undoubtedly catch the eye of a potential buyer. Its name comes from the Latin Sacristanus, meaning “sacristan.”
Aroma: malty and fruity, dried plums and apricots, candied lemon peel, caramel, toffee, walnuts and a delicate herbal note.
Palate: distinct notes of sherry, dried fruit, honey-roasted nuts, apricots, milk chocolate, toffee, traces of cinnamon and mint.
Finish : quite long, with notes of sherry, dried fruit, a mixture of nuts and sweet cereal flakes.
