Fettercairn 16 years old was launched in 2020 as Global Travel Retail exclusive.
The first release was distilled with chocolate malt and matured in first fill American ex-bourbon casks before being finished in selected ex-sherry and ex-port casks. The second release (2021) was a vatting of first fill and refill Oloroso sherry casks and first fill Palo Cortado sherry butts. The third release launched the following year was a combination of first and second fill bourbon, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks. The newest one, fourth edition released 2023, is a vatting of first fill ex-port pipes and ex-bourbon barrels. The whisky was bottled of natural color, without chill filtration at 46.4% abv.
Nose: fruity and slightly floral, black cherries, blackberries, plums, orange peel, sultanas, toffee, cocoa powder, sugared almonds, hints of potpourri and oak.
Palate: caramel, vanilla, toffee, blackberries, raspberries, plum butter, blood oranges, milk chocolate, candied ginger, dash of cinnamon, and toasted oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of mixed berries, milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, ginger, nutmeg, and oak.
