Glen Elgin Distillery, built in 1898, is located in the heart of Speyside, south of the town of Elgin.
Modernisation carried out in 2012 increased the production capacity of the plant to 2.7 million litres of alcohol per year, the vast majority of which goes to Diageo blends, mainly White Horse. Jack Wiebers (Lars-Göran Wiebers) is a German whisky importer and distributor operating since 1999, based in Berlin, whose editions are gaining increasing recognition among connoisseurs. The Glen Elgin presented here, distillation 2009, spent 13 years in bourbon barrel no. 40709, and was bottled at cask strength (50.4% abv) for the organisers of Whisky Fair Limburg in the Great Ocean Liners series. The edition consisted of 114 bottles.
Nose: barley malt, apples, pears, quince jam, toffee, vanilla, herbal tea, lemongrass, toasted oak and a light mineral note.
Palate: vanilla, milkshake, almond croissant, cantaloupe, green apples, pears, lemon peel, white pepper, dried herbs and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of sweet bread, vanilla, stewed apples, a touch of cinnamon, lemongrass and oak.
