Product description
Whitley Neill Gin, a creation of Johnny Neill, debuted in 2005 in the Halewood Wine & Spirits portfolio.
Neill is an eighth-generation distiller from the famous Greenall Whitley distilling family and claims that his English-made gin is inspired by Africa. He owes this inspiration to his African-born wife, who encouraged him to experiment with botanicals from the Black Continent. The gin formula includes baobab fruit and edible physalis, while the traditional side of the recipe is represented by juniper berries, coriander, orris and angelica roots, cassia bark, lemon and orange peel. It is distilled at Langley Distillery in a copper pot still that is over a hundred years old. In recent years, Whitley Neill has expanded its range of gins with flavoured versions, now there are over 10 of them. The Black Cherry Gin presented here, inspired by the cherry orchards of South Africa, is one of the company's latest offerings. In its formula, the African ingredients have been replaced by black cherries and liquorice root. In 2023, this gin won a silver medal at the International Spirits Challenge.
In the aromatic bouquet we discover notes of cherries, almonds, chocolate and juniper. In the taste again cherries, a bit of cinnamon, licorice and pine needles. We recommend serving with an ice cube or with a delicate premium tonic and a few cherries.
