Product description
Flóki single malt comes from Eimverk Distillery, the first and only whisky producer in Iceland. The whisky is named after Hrafn-Flóki, a Norwegian sailor who sailed to Iceland in the 9th century.
The company was founded by the three Thorkelsson brothers in 2011, and production began in August 2013. The plant produces 100,000 liters of distillate per year, of which 50% is whisky (the rest is gin and aquavit). Eimverk uses only local, organically grown barley, which it malts in-house. Due to the short and cold summer, Icelandic barley is low in sugar and it takes half as much to produce a bottle of whisky as in Scotland. The company experiments a lot with finishing maturation, the presented whisky, originally aged in traditional barrels, was finished in a mead barrel.
