When Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy acquired Glenmorangie plc and its three distilleries – Glenmorangie, Ardbeg and Glen Moray – in 2004, we heard voices that the latter did not quite fit the profile of a luxury goods producer.
Indeed, three years later Glen Moray found a new owner, the French company La Martiniquaise. In 2016, the French completed an expansion that doubled the distillery's production capacity, and in 2023 they started another one with a target capacity of 8.5 million distillates per year. Today, Glen Moray brand sales exceed 2.2 million bottles, and this single malt is a key component of the Label 5, Sir Edward's and Cutty Sark blends from La Martiniquaise's range. This Glen Moray, after maturing in bourbon barrels, was finished in port pipe barrels.
Aroma: barley malt, vanilla sticks, toffee, dried plums and cherries, a hint of cinnamon and light notes of oak and nuts.
Taste: caramel, vanilla, cinnamon buns, lemon jam, cherries, notes of allspice and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, sweet bread, cherries, a touch of cinnamon and oak.
