Glen Moray 2016 Elgin Curiosity, Rye Cask Finish / 46.3%/ 0.7l
- In 1923 Macdonald & Muir, the owners of Glenmorangie, acquired mothballed Glen Moray Distillery (the company then owned extremely popular Highland Queen blend and needed a steady supply of malt whisky).
Product description
In 1923, Macdonald & Muir, owner of Glenmorangie, purchased the idle Glen Moray Distillery, primarily to secure sufficient quantities of whisky for the production of its Highland Queen blend.
Glen Moray whisky has never been as popular as Glenmorangie. In 2008, Glen Moray Distillery was acquired by the French company La Martiniquaise, which doubled its production capacity to 6.5 million litres per year within a few years. In addition, the French have invested a lot of money in marketing the Glen Moray brand and have created an interesting and diverse commercial offer. The whisky presented here, distilled on 2nd August 2016, after maturing in refill barrels, was finished in rye whiskey barrels (American oak). The spirit was bottled at 46.3% abv and without chill filtration in 2021 in the Elgin Curiosity series, in an edition of 1637 bottles.
