Product description

In the last 15 years, we have witnessed Glendronach's return to the top league of Scotch whisky producers. After the ups and downs of previous owners, including James Allardes, Walter Scott (Teaninich), Charles Grant (one of William's sons, the founder of the Glenfiddich distillery), William Teacher & Sons and Allied Distillers, we come to 1996, when Glendronach ceased production. Renovated and modernised by Chivas Bros. in 2005-2007, it soon passed into the hands of Billy Walker and his BenRiach Distillery Co., which masterfully restored the local whisky to its due glory (in the 1970s it was one of the five most popular single malts). Since 2016, the distillery has been owned by Brown-Forman Corporation. The single cask edition presented here is a short journey back in time – the whisky distilled in June 1993, when the plant belonged to Allied Distillers, spent almost three decades in a puncheon cask no. 6738 of Pedro Ximénez sherry (in our opinion the best type of wood for this whisky). This nectar was bottled at cask strength (53.3% abv) exclusively for us, for the HOUSE OF WHISKY, in the spring of 2023 in an edition of 694 bottles.

Nose: creamy cappuccino, raisins in dark chocolate, roasted almonds, vanilla, some herbs (thyme and sage), juicy cherries and plums; a combination of sweet dark fruits with the spiciness of toasted oak.

Taste: silky smooth, yet multi-layered, mocha, gingerbread studded with dried fruit, a pinch of cinnamon, burnt butter, lots of plums and blackberries, roasted nuts and high-quality tobacco.

Finish: long and rich, moving from the sweetness of honey and blackberries to the subtle spiciness of spices and a nutty finale.
