Every uniqueness has its beginning

Welcome to the East Highland Hills in Aberdeenshire, where our distillery has been producing prestigious single mal scotch with a unique flavour for many years.
Built in 1826 by James Allardice, The GlenDronach remains one of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries today. With a rich and intense character, beautifully developed through careful maturation in sherry casks, GlenDronach truly epitomises the Highland style of whisky.

The brand is highly respected among single malt whisky connoisseurs and lovers around the world, not only for the exceptional quality of the whisky it creates, but also for its tireless determination and dedication to creating a very traditional single malt style, a single malt style made from sherry casks.

The values of GlenDronach have been passed down from generation to generation for years and remain unchanged.
Based on the foundations of tradition, using craftsmanship and knowledge, each bottle of GlenDronach whisky has been created for years to the same highest standards, introduced by the founder – James Allardice in the first half of the 19th century.

A rich and complex Highland whisky, slowly and carefully matured in Spanish oak barrels that previously held either rich and fruity Pedro Ximénez or dry and nutty Oloroso sherry.
This is how the GlenDronach style has been created for almost 200 years in the picturesque Forgue Valley: characterised by depth of colour, fullness of flavour and character, with an intense, long and pleasant finish.

Hand-numbered bottles from the Cask Bottling selection are a unique, limited and unreproducible expression of GlenDronach bottled from a single cask. These releases are the epitome of the style that has made GlenDronach so valued and sought after around the world. A smooth, rich and incredibly complex style of single malt Scotch from sherry casks.
In addition to a personalized number, each bottle bears the Master Blender signature "Aproved and hand-selected by Rachel Barrie."

With a fantastic stock of single malt casks in GlenDronach’s warehouses, some of which have been maturing there for decades, Rachel Barrie is able to select from a vast array of styles and flavours.

Bottled directly from a single cask, GlenDronach Cask Bottling single malt whiskies retain their most natural character, always being bottled at cask strength, without cold filtration, and retaining their natural colour from their long maturation in sherry casks.

Each year, Master Blender Dr Rachel Barrie personally selects a dozen casks from GlenDronach’s warehouses to be bottled in our Cask Bottling programme, literally poured straight from a single, carefully selected sherry cask into individually numbered bottles.

Nose: creamy cappuccino, raisins in dark chocolate, roasted almonds, vanilla, a hint of herbs, thyme and sage, cherries and ripe plums, a scent that harmoniously combines notes of sweet, dark fruits and the spiciness of toasted oak.

Taste: silky smooth, yet multi-layered, mocha coffee, gingerbread with dried fruit, a pinch of cinnamon, burnt butter, an abundance of dark fruit, especially plums and blackberries, roasted walnuts, tobacco leaf.

Finish: Rich and lingering, evolving from sweet layers of honey and blackberries to a subtle spiciness of spice with a distinctly nutty finish.

Cask Number: 6738

One of the best bottles I have tasted in a long time and I can see why Rachel Barrie selected this particular cask. A true expression of GlenDronach's Highland character, richness and depth of flavour, intense dark fruit notes, oaky spiciness, absolutely layered on every level yet all the flavours artfully balanced and despite its age not dominated by the cask. The 1993s are very special to GlenDronach for some reason and this is a perfect example of that!
