Product description
Summerhall Distillery, Edinburgh's first gin distillery for 150 years, was founded in 2013 by Matthew Gammell and Marcus Pickering.
In less than a decade, the company has grown significantly and now produces gin, vodka, rum and Scotch whisky. The latter debuted in 2022 in two versions – Broody Hen blended whisky and Broody Hen single malt. The brand name refers to 17th-century Scotland, when highly taxed producers competed with each other in ideas to outsmart excise officials. For example, barrels were smuggled in funeral processions, while bottles ended up in broody hens' nests. Broody Hen blended whisky is a blend of malt and grain distillates aged for at least three years in American oak barrels.
Nose : light and sweet, honey, vanilla, milk fudge, apples, pears, white pepper and a trace of oak shavings.
Palate : sweet cereal, caramel, vanilla, Manuka honey, peaches, apples, a touch of ginger, pepper and oak.
Finish : not too long, with notes of vanilla, brown sugar, buttered toast, a touch of cinnamon and oak.
