This Scotch whisky is a perfect example of a harmonious combination of the coastal character of the distillery and oak notes from the barrel in which it matures. Exposed to the sea air, it takes on intriguing, dry flavor notes. It brings a unique experience of tropical fruit sweetness, bathed in sherry with the addition of dark soy. It is bottled at 49.1 percent alcohol. The deep color of our single malt whisky is the color of amber, achieved without the addition of artificial colors. How to drink Glenglassaugh Portsoy Single Malt Scotch Whisky?
We suggest tasting this single malt scotch whisky without additives, on ice cubes. We recommend tasting it in a so-called tulip glass. The shape, which narrows towards the top, will intensify and focus the aromas.
How is Glenglassaugh Portsoy Single Malt Scotch Whisky made?
Glenglassaugh is the only coastal distillery located on the border of the Highland and Speyside regions, which influences the character of the flavour and aroma of the whisky produced there. Our whisky matures in coastal warehouses where, exposed to the sea air and sandy crescent beaches, it develops intriguing, dry flavour notes. Glenglassaugh Portsoy is a distinctive whisky matured in oak casks that have previously matured American bourbon, sherry and port.
Brand History
Glenglassaugh Distillery is situated on the shores of beautiful Sandend Bay, where the fresh North Sea breeze blows through the barrels where the whisky matures.
Glenglassaugh Distillery, situated at the eastern end of Scotland's beautiful Sandend Bay, was founded by Colonel James Moir in 1875. The Colonel quickly gained notoriety for creating quality super premium whiskies. The distillery's reputation for producing high quality malt whiskies also grew steadily, but with the collapse of the whisky industry in 1907, the distillery, along with many others, closed.
Despite being closed for more than a decade, the distillery has a distinguished history of maturing whiskies, with award-winning old vintages dating back to the 1960s and newer, boutique editions produced in the years since the distillery reopened in 2008. In 2016, Brown-Forman Corporation acquired the three single malt distilleries, Benriach, The GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh, and in 2017 Dr. Rachel Barrie became their Master Blender, bringing with her over two decades of industry experience.
The name Glenglassaugh means ‘grey-green valley’, which perfectly captures the colours and character of the coastal landscape, as does the brand’s Latin motto Per mare Per terra, meaning ‘By land and sea’.
Drink responsibly.
