Product description

Ladyburn is undoubtedly one of the rarest and most collectible single malts.

In 1963 William Grant & Sons completed the construction of the massive Girvan grain distillery in Ayrshire. Three years later, Ladyburn, equipped with four stills, began distilling malt whisky there. At the time, attempts were made to combine the two operations (Inverleven was part of Dumbarton, and Ben Wyvis was part of Invergordon), but as a rule these projects did not last longer than a dozen years. Ladyburn was no exception, ceasing distilling in 1975 due to the expansion of the Girvan Grain Distillery. For the new millennium, Wm Grant bottled a dozen or so barrels (American oak) of Ladyburn single malt distilled in 1973; a total of 3,000 bottles were released. The whisky presented here comes from barrel no. 1590.

Aroma : barley malt, spring meadow, apples, pears, lemon peel, vanilla, honey, brown sugar, licorice, notes of wax, pencil shavings and oak.

Palate : breakfast cereals, vanilla, honey, fresh herbs, green apples, mirabelle plums, eucalyptus drops, lemongrass, a touch of white pepper and oak.

Finish : quite long, with notes of vanilla, honey, licorice, white pepper, herbal mix and oak tannins.
