Berry Bros. & Rudd, a London trading company, was founded in 1690 and initially operated in the wine and food markets.
A purveyor to the royal court since the time of George III, it now employs eight Masters of Wine and has a stock of over 4,000 wines and spirits. Its first whisky hit was Cutty Sark (1923), blended for Americans sentenced to Prohibition. The company offers single malt whiskies in the highly regarded Berry's Own Selection series and the popular Classic Range. The Berry Bros. Islay Blended Malt presented here debuted in 2018, blended exclusively from Islay single malts and bottled at 44.2% abv.
Nose: iodine and tarred ropes, sea water and seaweed, smoked fish, lemon peel, green apples, grapefruit, vanilla, damp hay and peat smoke.
Palate: sweet and smoky, vanilla, salty caramel, licorice, seaweed salad, lemon peel, stewed apples, white currants, a touch of pepper and oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of vanilla, milkshake, licorice, pepper, lemongrass, sea salt, peat smoke and a hint of mint.
