The Teeling Whiskey Co. is based in the heart of Dublin, once known as the “Big Smoke.”
It is the first distillery to open in the city in 125 years, equipped with three stills, it produces 500 thousand liters of distillate per year (single malt and single pot still). It began operating in the summer of 2015, two years later Bacardi Ltd bought a minority stake in the company for an undisclosed amount. Teeling Blackpitts distilled from malt imported from Scotland with a concentration of phenol compounds over 50 ppm debuted in 2020 bottled at 46% abv. Soon we saw the cask strength version. The latter was aged exclusively in bourbon barrels and bottled at 56.5% abv without cold filtration in an edition of 8,400 bottles.
Aroma : smoke and ashes, spring meadow, apples, pears, grilled pineapple, orange peel, a mixture of dried herbs, cloves and a trace of burnt rubber.
Taste: lots of smoke, malt, baked apples and pears, pineapples, blood oranges, vanilla, salted caramel, licorice, white pepper, traces of lavender and tar.
Finish : quite long, with notes of peat smoke, burnt grass, apples, caramel, herbal spice and a pinch of salt.
