Product description
The original, now iconic Springbank Local Barley series featured whiskies distilled in 1965/66 and bottled between 1990 and 2001 (it returned to the range in 2016 with the 1999 Vintage edition).
All the raw materials used in the production, except the casks, came from within eight miles of the distillery. Even in the 1990s, when interest in single malts was a fraction of what it is today, Local Barley editions were warmly received by connoisseurs and were synonymous with the highest quality. Here we present Springbank, distilled in January 1966, matured in sherry cask no. 1966/443 for 24 years (most editions were from ex-bourbon casks) and bottled at cask strength (58.1% abv) in June 1990. Interestingly, in 1990 Campbeltown did not have the status of a separate region, hence the designation on the label "West Highland Scotch Malt Whisky". The 1966/443 cask was one of three that opened the Local Barley series.
Nose : complex, old leather couch, dark chocolate, toffee, eucalyptus, orange liqueur, roasted chestnuts, dried porcini mushrooms, pipe tobacco, dried herbs, furniture polish, beeswax and a light smoke in the background.
Palate: rich and intense, honey, bitter orange jam, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, black tea, a pinch of pepper, herbal mixture, cloves, tobacco, traces of resin and peat, and sherry-soaked oak.
Finish : infinitely long, all flavor elements in perfect harmony.
