Product description
Athrú whiskey debuted in 2019 with the Annacoona edition presented here, the first part of a trilogy that also includes Knocknarena and Keshcorran whiskeys.
The word “Athrú” translates to “transformation”, the brand belongs to Lough Gill Distillery, and Billy Walker, the current owner and master distiller of GlenAllachie Distillery, played a part in its creation. Lough Gill began work in 2019, and three years later it was purchased by Sazerac Company of New Orleans, entrusting the position of master distiller to Helen Mulholland, previously working for Bushmills. The plant is equipped with three stills and can produce one million liters of distillate per year. Athrú Anncoona is a 14-year-old single malt whiskey from an undisclosed distillery, which after 11 years of maturation in bourbon casks was placed in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The edition consisted of 6,600 bottles.
