The company was founded in 1809 in Bercy (a suburb of Paris) by Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois, and is currently headquartered in Jarnac. At the end of the 19th century, Courvoisier enjoyed such great prestige and popularity that it was served at the grand opening of the Eiffel Tower in 1889. Paris was then experiencing its "golden age" and was considered the world center of art, literature, music, fashion and cuisine. Currently, Maison Courvoisier is part of the Beam Suntory group. Courvoisier VS is distilled from grapes mainly from the Fins Bois district, with a small addition of Petite Champagne. In 2021, it won a silver medal at the London Spirit Competition.
