Renowned distribution company Douglas Laing & Co. was owned by brothers Stewart and Fred Laing until 2013, but after 40 years of success the brothers decided to split the company assets and operate separately.
The Old Malt Cask range is now owned by Hunter Laing & Co., of which Stewart is chairman. Arran, distilled in July 1988, spent nearly a quarter of a century in a refilled hogshead cask, HL 19620. Bottled in July 2022 at natural colour, without chill filtration and at cask strength (54.7% abv), in an edition of 243 bottles. Arran Distillery (now Lochranza Distillery) is based on the Isle of Arran and has two pairs of stills, producing 1.2 million litres of spirit per year. It is the most visited distillery in Scotland, welcoming over 100,000 whisky lovers each year.
Aroma : fruity and herbal, apples, peaches, honeydew melon, pineapples, vanilla, honeydew peanuts, coconut, green tea, fresh herbs and toasted oak.
Taste : vanilla ice cream, honey, apples, pears, cherries, coconut flakes, marzipan, sponge cake, sultanas, cinnamon, a pinch of lemon pepper and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of vanilla, milk fudge, honey, ripe orchard fruit, herbal mix and oak.
