Renowned distribution company Douglas Laing & Co. was owned by brothers Stewart and Fred Laing until 2013, but after 40 years of success the brothers decided to split the company assets and operate separately.
The Old Malt Cask range is now owned by Hunter Laing & Co., of which Stewart is chairman. The Craigellachie shown here was distilled in April 2007 and spent 15 years in a refill sherry butt no. HL 19606. Bottled in August 2022 at natural colour, without chill filtration and at 50% ABV in an edition of 634 bottles. The Craigellachie Distillery is based in the Speyside village of Aberlour. The distillery has two pairs of stills and produces around 4 million litres of distillate per year. Craigellachie malt is one of the key components of Dewar's blends.
Aroma : vanilla pudding, brown sugar, toffee, chocolate cake, peaches, gooseberries, lemon jam, allspice, notes of cinnamon and oak.
Palate: caramel, honey, milk chocolate, nectarines, peaches, red apples, candied lemon peel, walnuts, notes of cinnamon, cloves and leather.
Finish : quite long, with notes of milk fudge, chocolate, summer fruits, cinnamon, candied ginger, tobacco and oak.
