Product description
Renowned distribution company Douglas Laing & Co. was owned by brothers Stewart and Fred Laing until 2013, but after 40 years of success the brothers decided to split the company assets and operate separately.
The Old Malt Cask range is now owned by Hunter Laing & Co., of which Stewart is chairman. The Benriach shown here, distilled in October 2001 (the distillery was then owned by Canadian Seagram), spent more than two decades in a refill hogshead cask, HL 19523. Bottled in July 2022, unchill-filtered, at 50% abv, in an edition of 297 bottles. Based in Speyside, the Benriach Distillery has a capacity of 2.8 million litres per year from two pairs of stills (currently operating at around 65% capacity).
Aroma : slightly floral, spring meadow, caramel, vanilla, honeyed breakfast cereals, peaches, nectarines, apples, notes of cinnamon and toasted oak.
Palate : fruity, apples, pears, oranges, grapefruits, vanilla, honey, sponge cake, sugared peanuts, cinnamon, notes of licorice and oak.
Finish: medium long, malty and fruity, with notes of summer fruits, citrus, vanilla, honey, milk fudge, cinnamon and oak.
