- Douglas Laing & Co., one of the most reputable independent bottling companies, used to be run by two Laing brothers, Stewart and Fred. In 2013, after almost 40 years of working together, the brothers parted ways and split the old company portfolio.

Renowned distribution company Douglas Laing & Co. was owned by brothers Stewart and Fred Laing until 2013, but after 40 years of success the brothers decided to split the company assets and operate separately.
The Old Malt Cask range is now owned by Hunter Laing & Co., of which Stewart is chairman. The Tamdhu shown here, distilled in April 2007, spent 15 years in a sherry butt no. HL 19132. Bottled in May 2022, unchill-filtered at 50% abv, in an edition of 775 bottles. Based in Speyside, the Tamdhu Distillery has three pairs of stills and can produce 4 million litres of distillate per year. Since 2011, the distillery has been owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, which operates at 75% capacity.
Nose : pronounced notes of sherry, coffee, raisins, dried cherries, red apples, roasted nuts, toffee, golden syrup, nutmeg, black pepper and oak.
Palate : dark chocolate, honey, toffee, hazelnuts, marzipan, plums, raisins, orange peel, a touch of licorice, cinnamon, pepper, sherry and oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of toffee, caramel, dark chocolate, dark dried fruits, pepper, cinnamon, cloves and oak.
