Special Releases is a limited series of Diageo whiskies released every autumn.
It debuted in 2002 and is made from the finest single malt and single grain barrels from the group's portfolio, bottled at cask strength without chill filtration. The 2022 release included 7 single malts (Mortlach NAS, Oban 10 years old, Talisker 11 years old, Clynelish 12 years old, Lagavulin 12 years old, Singleton of Glen Ord 15 years old, Cardhu 16 years old) and one single grain whisky, Cameron Bridge 26 years old. The Singleton of Glen Ord 15 years old presented here was aged in refill barrels (European and American oak), then finished for about eight years in wine-seasoned barrels.
Aroma : malty and fruity, peaches, cherries, raspberries, plums, toffee, honey, sponge cake, roasted almonds, notes of wax and oak.
Palate : mild, vanilla cream, honey, plums, oranges, red berries, sultanas, hazelnuts, sweet bread, a pinch of cinnamon and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of vanilla, honey, red berries, roasted nuts and almonds and oak tannins.
