The Pusser's brand is strongly associated with British sailing traditions.
Traditionally, each sailor on Royal Navy ships received a daily ration of rum, rationed by the ship's Purser (which the sailors changed to Pusser). Pusser's Rum Ltd. was founded almost a decade after the Royal Navy abandoned this noble custom on July 31, 1970. The inconsolable sailors named it Black Tot Day. It took until 1979 for them to be able to relive the good old days - thanks to Pusser's Rum Ltd. To start, five different rums from the West Indies (or Caribbean) were blended using the original Royal Navy recipe.
Pusser's Deptford Dockyard Reserve is a limited edition, prepared by Pusser's to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of Black Tot Day. The name comes from the Deptford Dockyars naval base, where the most important alcohol warehouses of the Royal Navy were established in 1742. The rum is a blend of high-ester distillates from Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados.
