John Distilleries Ltd has been producing blended whisky since 1992 and malt whisky since 2008.
While the blends do not meet the European Union standards set for whisky (they are put together on a sugar molasses base), the single malts that hit the old continent in 2012 have gained quite a following. Distilled from 6-row barley grown in the foothills of the Himalayas and partially aged in an underground, climate-controlled warehouse. Paul John Pedro Ximénez Select Cask debuts in fall 2019 with the Oloroso Select Cask edition. After a maturation period of about 5 years spent in bourbon barrels, the whisky was finished for several months in Pedro Ximénez sweet sherry casks, while it was bottled without cold filtration with an alcohol content of 48%.
Aroma: sweet dried fruit, figs, dates, apricots, orange peel, milk chocolate, honeyed nuts, cappuccino and a trace of leather.
Taste: fruity with a subtle spiciness, oranges, sultanas, nectarines, milky fudge, Christmas coke, roasted nuts and almonds, notes of cinnamon and ginger.
Finish: quite long, with notes of dried fruits, mixed nuts, milk chocolate, licorice and candied ginger.
