BenRiach Distillery, the Cinderella of the 20th century, has undergone a remarkable transformation in the new millennium and remains one of Scotland’s most respected whisky producers.
Since 2016, it has been owned by the American Brown-Forman Corporation, which has entrusted the position of master blender to the female whisky legend, Rachel Barrie. So far, Ms. Barrie has followed the path paved by Billy Walker and has offered a lot of interesting editions. The BenRiach The Thirty presented here was compiled from distillates with a smoke-peat profile aged for three decades in bourbon, sherry, port and so-called "virgin oak casks". The whisky was bottled at 46% abv without chill filtration.
Nose: fragrant smoke, honey, toffee, oranges, apricots, plums, walnuts, milk chocolate, cinnamon, a trace of anise, cocoa, polished oak and a fleeting hint of sulfur.
Palate: chocolate-coated raisins, honey, plums, cherries, dried figs, sweet bread, cinnamon, ginger, traces of tobacco and leather and a whiff of peat smoke.
Finish : quite long, smoky, with notes of honey, dried figs and dates, raisins, chocolate, ginger, damaged nuts and oak.
