In 2019, Glengoyne Distillery launched “The Legacy Series” dedicated to its history and heritage. “Chapter One.”
The first chapter of the series, recalling Cochrane Cartwright, who took over as the distillery manager in 1869, decided to slow down the distillation process to “extract stronger fruit tones from the distillate” and to use sherry casks for maturation. The second edition was devoted to the Russell family (especially Peter), owners of the Ian Macleod Distillers company, which took over the distillery and warehouse stocks in 2003. The hero of the third edition is Arthur John Tedder, a royal excise official stationed at the distillery. It is to him that Scotch whisky owes its legal definition and current status to a large extent. In this edition, high-quality sherry casks made of American oak were used.
