Product description
At the end of 2016, the prestigious Glenmorangie Bond House No. 1 Collection debuted with the Grand Vintage Malt 1990 edition, named after the No. 1 Warehouse, built in the 19th century and converted into a distillery in 1990.
The eighth entry in this prestigious collection is the Grand Vintage Malt 1998 presented here (Bill Lumsden was appointed creative director of production that year). In his latest creation, Mr. Lumsden used three types of casks – bourbon, Oloroso sherry and heavily charred so-called virgin American oak casks. The whisky was bottled at 43% ABV in 2022 in an edition of 10,100 bottles. (Official tasting note.)
Nose : rich yet mild, a bit of toffee, ripe pears and plums, baked apples and traces of oak. In the second wave vanilla, mint leaf, wax and fragrant incense. After adding a few drops of water we discover the classic Glenmorangie citrus notes, lemon, mandarin, sweet tobacco, lavender and a touch of ginger in the background.
Palate : fruity sweetness interwoven with chocolate, toffee, sweet raisins and figs; followed by chocolate-covered orange peel, cloves, ginger and a pinch of anise.
Finish : subtle and soothing, with notes of roasted almonds, dates and leather.
