Kavalan single malt is produced at the Yuan Shan distillery based in Yilan County, Taiwan.
The plant was built in 2005, and the whisky from there debuted three years later and is named after the tribe that originally inhabited the region. Kavalan's debut made a small earthquake among whisky experts and gourmets; over the years, the whisky has won countless awards and accolades and successfully competes with both Scotch and Japanese whiskies. The most popular is the Solist series consisting of single cask whiskies aged in different types of casks. The Kavalan Brandy Oak presented here is not from a single barrel, it is a small batch edition bottled at cask strength (54% abv).
Aroma: quite strong scent of brandy, brown sugar, plums, red apples, roasted sesame seeds, a dash of Maggi, a touch of ginger and oak.
Taste: spicy, various types of pepper, ginger, black tea, dark chocolate, burnt sugar, blood oranges, roasted almonds, grilled pineapple, notes of leather and oak.
Finish: medium-long, with notes of dark chocolate, caramel, raisins, dried plums, pepper and oak.
