Product description
Dewar's 18-year-old Double Aged is a premium blended whisky from the "Double Aged" series, which emphasizes smoothness and complexity thanks to a two-stage ageing process. The process involves individual maturation of single malt and grain whisky ingredients in American oak barrels for 18 years. Then the blend is re-aged in Oloroso sherry barrels, which integrates the flavors and gives a velvety texture. The blend uses, among others, single malts from the Aberfeldy, Craigellachie and Royal Brackla distilleries. The history of the brand began with John Dewar, who started his own business in 1846, and a dozen or so years later he made the first attempts at blending whisky.
The Dewar's brand was registered in 1891 and within a few years it had achieved global success. It is still the most popular Scotch whisky overseas, although its global sales fell to 2.6 million cases in 2020. Since 1998, the brand has been owned by Bacardi Ltd., which offers more and more premium editions. This segment includes Dewar's Double Aged Special Reserve, made from distillates aged for at least 15 years. American oak and sherry barrels were used in the maturation process.
