Product description
Lawrenny is a picturesque Tasmanian homestead situated on the Derwent River, approximately an hour's drive north-west of Hobart.
Its original owner was Edward Lord, who raised cattle and sheep, wheat, barley and hops on 80,000 acres of the estate. Since 1991, the estate has been owned by the Mace family, who have not only restored it to its former glory, but also built a small distillery to produce whisky, vodka and gin. The gin is inspired by the meadows, fields, gardens and orchards scattered around the estate, which provide some of the botanicals. These include strawberries, almonds, fennel, lime blossoms, dried citrus peel and local herbs. Distillation is overseen by Joe Dinsmoor, whose CV includes the Lark Distillery. Lawrenny 1818 Settlers Gin refers to the year from which the estate was first recorded, as well as to the first settlers, their perseverance and strength of character. Its formula also includes rosemary, cumin, cassia bark and allspice. In 2018, this gin won a silver medal at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards.
Lawrenny 1818 Settlers is a gin with a powerful aromatic and flavor palette, in which notes of juniper are balanced by rosemary, cumin, blackcurrants and a distant trace of smoke. The producer recommends serving it with Mediterranean tonic and a slice of orange.
