Product description
Macduff is a relatively new distillery based in the Highlands. It started in 1960 and in 1972 it came under the ownership of William Lawson Distillers, then owned by Martini & Rossi.
In 1993 Martini & Rossi merged with Bacardi Ltd and Macduff became part of the John Dewar & Sons portfolio, a subsidiary of Bacardi. The distillery has five stills and produces over 3 million litres of distillate per year. Here we present a unique edition of Macduff from the Italian company Samaroli. Distilled in 1990, the whisky spent almost two decades in a Fino 1416 sherry cask and was bottled at 45% abv as part of the Coilltean series in November 2009 in an edition of 243 bottles.
Nose : delicate notes of sherry, coffee beans, dark toffee, caramel, elderberry liqueur, blackberries, blackcurrants, roasted almonds, hints of black pepper and oak.
Taste: dark chocolate, almond croissant, multi-berry jam, buckwheat honey, toffee, black tea, a pinch of allspice and black pepper and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of dark chocolate, dark berries, honey, dried herbs, oak and a fading trace of smoke.
