Since 2018, Loch Lomond whisky has been the official spirit of the famous golf tournament The Open (previously it was Glenmorangie).
That’s why Michael Henry, the Loch Lomond Group’s blending master, creates special editions of whisky every year. This 10-year-old commemorates the 150th anniversary of the tournament, which first took place in Prestwick in 1860.) Advertised by the producer as “Apple, Vanilla and Oak”, it is a blend of traditional and Lomond pot stills. The maturation process uses first-fill and refill bourbon barrels, as well as re-charred American oak barrels.
Nose: sweet breakfast cereals, vanilla, honey, ripe apples and pears, canned peaches, freshly cut grass, notes of tobacco and peat.
Palate: mild, vanilla, honey cereal, brown sugar, apples and apple juice, orange peel, a touch of pepper and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, apples, green grapes, a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg and a trace of smoke.
