Premier Barrel Selection from the Douglas Laing & Co. portfolio is one of the most impressively packaged whisky lines.
It comes to market in old-fashioned stoneware decanters, always accompanied by a short stanza referring to the specific whisky and expressed using alliteration. All whiskies in the Premier Barrel series are bottled naturally and without chill filtration at 46% abv. The Aberfeldy 8 years old presented here is a single cask edition from 2022 limited to 227 bottles (or rather stoneware). Owned by Bacardi Ltd, the Aberfeldy Distillery is based in the southern Highlands and equipped with two pairs of stills produces 3.4 million litres of distillate per year, most of which goes into Dewar's blends.
Nose: barley malt, green apples, pears, lemon peel, vanilla, brown sugar, sweet bread, notes of hay and oak.
Palate : mild, breakfast cereals, vanilla, caramel, honey, apples, peaches, lemongrass, a pinch of white pepper and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of breakfast cereal, vanilla, honey, apples, herbal spice and oak.
