Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask range, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and headed by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Benrinnes 15 year old on display here was distilled in November 2006 and aged in a refill hogshead cask (DL 15652). Bottled in March 2022 at 48.4% abv and non-chill-filtered in a limited edition of 206 bottles.
Nose : barley malt, oatmeal, freshly baked bread, honey, vanilla, walnuts, peaches, nectarines, gooseberries, some hay and light oak and mineral tones.
Palate: buttered toast, vanilla pudding, milkshakes, sugared peanuts, honey, apples, strawberry rhubarb jam, grapes, white pepper and toasted oak
Finish : quite long, with notes of vanilla, honey, brown sugar, cappuccino, lemon tart, a touch of cinnamon and oak.
