In spring 2020, Chivas Bros. announced the release of the Chivas Extra 13 Collection.
It is to consist of 13-year-old blends, in the creation of which Sandy Hyslop, the master blender of Chivas, used unique types of casks. The series is inspired by the brothers James and John Chivas, importers of oriental spices and food products, rums and producers of blended whisky. The company was based in Aberdeen, at 13 King Street. The success of the first series, including Oloroso sherry casks, American rye whiskey, rum and tequila casks, encouraged the master to try again. The whisky presented here was "selectively finished in bourbon casks", i.e. part of the finished blend spent the final period of maturation in bourbon casks. The graphic design of the edition used the works of Greg Gossel, an American pop-culture artist.
Color : amber
Nose : vanilla, milk fudge, red apples, pears, peaches, orange peel, buttery croissant, pralines, notes of cinnamon and oak.
Palate : sweet, caramel, vanilla pudding, buttered popcorn, golden syrup, stewed apples and pears, cinnamon, lemon zest and oak.
Finish : medium long and sweet, with notes of vanilla, caramel, cappuccino, sweet bread, a touch of cinnamon and white pepper.
