Product description
Rough Rider Bull Moose whiskey is a product of Long Island Spirits, founded in 2007, the first distillery on the island since the early 19th century.
The name refers to Long Island President Teddy Roosevelt and his volunteer cavalry unit, the Rough Riders, and his progressive party, commonly known as the Bull Moose. Rough Rider Bull Moose is distilled from a mash of 95% rye and 5% malted barley (most likely at the MGP Indiana distillery) and aged in three types of barrels. After an initial maturation in fresh American white oak barrels, the whiskey is transferred to ex-bourbon barrels, from which it is transferred to barrels previously used to age the locally produced Pine Barrens Single Malt whiskey.
Nose : spicy and slightly spirituous with subdued fruity notes, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, pine needles and toasted rye bread.
Taste: quite sweet, vanilla, caramel, berry jam, cinnamon and a slice of wholemeal bread with butter.
Finish : medium long, warming, with notes of caramel, cinnamon and toasted oak.
