Starward Distillery was founded by David Vitale in Melbourne in 2008. In October 2016 the company moved to the new location after being given substantial cash injection from Distill Ventures, subsidiary of Diageo.
Starward Distillery has just been named the World Most Awarded Distillery at the 2022 San Francisco World Spirit Competition. They scored 12 Double Gold and 3 Gold at the event. It is the first Australian distillery to be named the ‘Most Awarded Distillery of the Year’. The set presented here consists of three 200ml bottles of three expressions of Starward single malt.
Starward Left-Field (40% abv) is aged Australian red wine barrels (100% French oak) from wine regions of the Barossa Valley and Yarra Valley, which previously held some of Australia’s biggest and boldest red wines.
Starward Nova (41% abv) is aged in Australian wine barrels, mainly Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir; the barrels are delivered within days of being emptied, what allows to “wet fill” them with newly made spirit to access as much of the wine’s fruit character as possible;
Starward Fortis (50% abv) is aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and French oak ex-Australian red wine casks.
