The expansion, completed in 2015, made Glen Orda the second largest malt distillery in Diageo’s portfolio – equipped with 14 stills, it can produce 11 million litres of distillate per year.
Since 2006, Glen Ord has been part of the Singleton brand and is the most popular single malt on the Asian market. Alongside Glen Ord, Dufftown and Glendullan are bottled under the Singleton brand, with combined sales of 6 million bottles per year. Glen Ord has not seen many independent releases in recent years, the one presented here is a September 2021 offering from the Dutch The Ultimate Whisky Company. Distilled on August 30, 2011, the whisky spent over a decade in a first-fill bourbon cask, no. 800307, and was bottled at 46% abv in an edition of 210 bottles.
Aroma : fresh, fruity and floral, blooming apple tree, peaches, pineapples, bananas, vanilla, caramel, coconut flakes, white tea and a trace of pine needles.
Palate : mild, vanilla, buttery croissant, cappuccino, nougat, peaches, orange peel, a touch of white pepper and lemongrass and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, sweet bread, peaches, apricots, toffee, a touch of cinnamon and oak.
