Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask series acquired by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co, of which Stewart is chairman. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Jura 12 year old presented here was distilled in July 2008 and aged in a refill hogshead cask no. DL 14973. Bottled in May 2021 at 48.4% abv and unchill-filtered in an edition of 375 bottles.
Taste : fresh and expressive, barley malt, lemons, grapefruit, butter cookies, vanilla, white pepper, potpourri and oak notes.
Taste : sweet breakfast cereal, vanilla, caramel, milk fudge, roasted peanuts, apples, peaches, lemon zest and a hint of ginger.
Finish : medium long, with notes of toasted grains, vanilla, caramel, a mixture of dried herbs and oak.
