Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask range, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and headed by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Glen Spey 18 years old presented here was distilled in January 2002 and aged in a refill hogshead cask no. DL 13903. Bottled in March 2020 at 48.4% abv, natural colour and unchill-filtered in an edition limited to 347 bottles.
Nose : honeyed breakfast cereal, vanilla, cappuccino, orange peel, grapefruit, apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, a pinch of pepper and oak.
Palate : vanilla pudding, toffee, milk chocolate, almond croissants, coconut flakes, oranges, licorice, notes of ginger, nutmeg and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of honey, vanilla, sweet bread, pralines, cinnamon and toasted oak.
