The establishment of Kaiken winery is the fruit of the efforts of the famous Aurelio Montes, creator of the widely known and acclaimed Montes Winery. Together with three friends, he began producing wines in Chile in 1988, which quickly brought him international fame. When he realized that the Andes region in Argentina had great potential, he began to acquire plots in the best locations in Maipo, Ugarteche, Uco Valley and Cruz de Piedra. In 2003, the first vintage of Kaiken wines was released, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, which perfectly reflected the character of the Mendoza region and, equally importantly, perfectly combined the characteristics of Chilean and Argentinean wines.
What does the name Kaiken mean? It is a breed of goose that is common in the Andes region. The winery is located in Vistalba, in an over 80-year-old historic building, where it is no exaggeration to say that tradition meets modernity. The wine is fermented in historic concrete tanks, which best preserve the original flavors of the grapes, and the entire process is supported by the latest achievements in winemaking.
Kaiken Seleccion Especial Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Red, dry wine, produced from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape with 2% of the Malbec grape. The grapes come from the best plots in Vistalba and Agrelo in the Mendoza region. It matured (60% of production) for 6 months in French oak barrels, partly new, partly used. Beautiful, dark, ruby color with delicate purple reflections, plus a wealth of complex aromas of cherries, plums with a touch of dark chocolate and vanilla. Very well-structured on the palate, with intertwining notes of fruit and oak, well-integrated, juicy tannin. Quite long finish with spice and vanilla accents.
Perfect with roast pork, pasta with creamy sauces, as well as mushroom risotto and cheeses.
