The Clan Denny series debuted at the beginning of the new century and initially consisted of old single grain whiskies.
Distribution was handled by Hunter Hamilton & Co., a subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co., owned by brothers Stewart and Fred Laing. In 2013, the brothers split up and divided the company's assets. The latest editions of Clan Denny include single grain whiskies, single malts and blended malts, distributed by Douglas McGibbon & Co., another subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co., now owned exclusively by Fred. The Caol Ila presented here, distilled in November 2010, was aged in a refill butt cask no. DMG 14793 for over a decade. Bottled in March 2021 at 48% abv and without chill filtration, in an edition of 413 bottles.
Nose: fresh barley malt, peat smoke, tarred ropes, sea breeze, damp sand, vanilla, green apples, white pepper and damp hay.
Palate: smoke and ashes, breakfast cereals, apples, mirabelle plums, burnt toast, lemons, grapefruits, pepper and delicate mineral notes.
Finish : medium long, with notes of peat smoke, cigar ash, salty vanilla breeze, a touch of licorice and pepper.
