The Clan Denny series debuted at the beginning of the new century and initially consisted of old single grain whiskies.
Distribution was handled by Hunter Hamilton & Co., a subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co., owned by brothers Stewart and Fred Laing. In 2013, the brothers split up and divided the company's assets. The latest Clan Denny releases include single grain whiskies, single malts and blended malts, and are distributed by Douglas McGibbon & Co., another subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co., now owned exclusively by Fred. The Blair Athol presented here spent 10 years in a reconditioned hogshead cask, no. DMG 15279, and was bottled at 53.8% abv without chill filtration as part of The Clan Denny Chronicles in an edition of 229 bottles.
Nose : barley malt, roasted nuts, sherry-soaked raisins, dried figs and dates, cocoa powder, notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and oak.
Palate: dried plums, dates and figs, raisins, dark chocolate, black coffee, sugared almonds, black pepper, nutmeg, notes of sherry and oak.
Finish: medium long, fruity and spicy, with notes of dried dark fruit, zesty orange, chocolate, pepper and oak.
